Thursday, March 6. 2008Josie Update
Its been quite a while since I've put an update in, so I'll fill everyone in on everything!
We've just loved having little Josie! The past month has flown by so fast! My family: Mom, Jenny, Mike, and Becky came down and we had Josie baptised at the end of January. Jenny and Becky were really happy to come and see their little nice (mom and Mike had already seen her) but Dad had to stay home because he had planned a big party and had to be there to host it!
After the baptitsm we flew up to Minnesota for a few days to visit Great Grandma Erbe, Great Aunt Marilyn, Great Uncle Tom, Great Aunt Becky, Cousin Christy and Grandma Maurer (Again!). We had gotten word a week or so before that Grandma Erbe was not doing very well and I really wanted her to be able to meet Josie - Her first and only great grandchild. When we got there, she was very weak and couldn't get out of bed, except for very brief periods, but when she saw Josie she just lit up. She was so happy to meet her, I'm so glad we were able to go up and visit. Here's a picture of the 4 generations of Lauras.
It was so cold when we were in Minnesota that Josie had to get a special snow suit! My mom found her the smallest snowsuit she could find - a 0-3 months size - but it was still Huge on her! One night it was so cold that we couldn't even go outside, so we had to book a special guestroom at my grandma's place so that we could stay overnight.
We got back home from Minnesota just in time for a visit from Aunt Jessie! Aaron's sister came into town for a wedding and to visit her new little niece! We had a great time and played a lot of 'Settlers of Catan'. Hopefully we'll be able to go visit her and Maya up in Washington sometime soon.
At her one month checkup, Josie weighed in at 6lbs 8oz. Still small, but growing! Sadly, shortly after we got home from Minnesota, Grandma Erbe passed away. Although we were all very sad about this, we feel very happy and blessed that she didn't suffer long. Josie and I made the trip up to Boone, IA for the memorial service and to see all our relatives. We had a good time seeing everyone and considering the circumstances, we had a really good trip. It was very cold, but Josie got to meet Grandpa Maurer, Great Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jeff and her Hawkins Cousins, and all the Erbe friends and relatives.
Now we're back home and taking a break from traveling. Mostly just spending time at home and enjoying the time before I return to work on April 1.
Monday Aaron and I took her to the Strawberry Festival. She was really good and we had a great time. we got lots of fair food and a whole flat of strawberries. We even rode the ferris wheel.
We went to the doctor today and Josie is doing great! She's up to 8lbs 8oz. and 21 inches! The doctor says she's doing fine, she's just small. She had to get 4 shots today and 1 oral vaccine. That's all for now. I'll try and be better with my updates, but I can't make any promises! Sunday, January 27. 2008At home with Josie
Here we are, at home together. We got everything moved from the old place into the new town home. Josie is doing well, she's up to five pounds four ounces, and she's eating really well. She hasn't been sleeping through the night yet but she gives us a few good hours of sleep at a time. One night she blessed us with about 5 and a half hours of sleep - but that seems to have been a one time gig.
I've been feeling pretty well and getting around fairly well. I'm still not allowed to lift any heavy things, but I'm getting a lot of stuff done. Josie really loves being held, and enjoys her special mommy and daddy time. She's been on a few outings, but Monday she and I are going to Minnesota to visit great grandma. Grandma has gotten little Josie a big warm coat so she'll be nice and cozy. We'll be up there for a few days, then back to Tampa in time to visit with Aaron's sister.
All is going well so far. We've ben really busy, but we've been enjoying the company and are loving the time we get to spend with our girl! Monday, January 7. 2008She's Here!!!
Well, We made it to 35 weeks and 2 days... Laura Josephine Storms aka Josie was born January 5 2008, at 4:22pm. She weighed five pounds and one half ounce and so beautiful!!!
We're still at St Joeseph's women's hospital. I should be able to go home either Tuesday or Wednesday, but she'll have to stay in a few more days because she was having trouble eating. They have Josie in the NICU and she's been on a feeding tube for the past day and a half, but the past couple feedings she ate with the bottle and kept everything down, so she should be able to come home soon too.
On Friday the 4th my I had a doctor's appointment to get everything checked out. They took my blood pressure and urine and noticed that my preeclampsia was getting worse and decided it would be best to induce me ASAP. Aaron and I went into the hospital Friday night at 8pm so they could start the whole process. By around 3:30 the next day I hadn't progressed very much, and I was getting very exhausted, so the we all decided a c-section would be best.
We're all doing well - Aaron, Josie and I are all in need of lots of rest. Its been a really crazy past few days! Thanks to everyone who came to visit! We've loved seeing and hearing from all of you. We've got a gallery of photos up on kodakgallery.com so let me know if you want the link and I'll send it your way. I'll keep everyone up to date with the goings on!

I'm getting a little behind on my updates! I've just been so busy with the holidays and all my doctor's appointments and such, but everything is going well so far.
I definetly feel like I'm as big as a house now. I'm very uncomfortable, my legs and hips and feet hurt if I stand for too long. My feet and ankles are constantly swollen. I have heartburn after everything I eat. Being pregnant is such a joy! I'm going to the doctor every week now for checkups, etc. My blood pressure has still been high but is pretty consistant. They do lots of tests while I'm there that usually end up taking about 1 - 1.5 hours, so I'm getting a lot of reading done. I can also take a quick nap when they put me on this fetal monitor since I really just have to sit in a recliner for about half an hour while they monitor the baby's heartbeat. I've been working still - although I've had quite a few days off these past few weeks - but the doctor thinks that I might need to go on bed rest, so I don't know how much longer I'll be able to work. I'm not really too excited about sitting around in bed all day - but I guess the doctor knows best...
Even though I couldn't travel home for the holidays, I've been having a great time here in Tampa with Aaron & his family. We've been eating SO MUCH delicious food, and playing lots of nintendo wii. Super Mario Galaxy is my new favorite, followed closely by wii bowling. Aaron found a nice townhome a week or so ago that we will most likely be moving into within the next month. That's all for now! I'll keep you all updated! Tuesday, December 18. 200732 Weeks
Here I am at 32 weeks. As you can see, my apartment is still cluttered with so much baby stuff! I can't believe all the stuff I have and I still need to get more! For such a little person, she sure needs a lot of stuff!
I've been pretty miserable lately. Very uncomfortable, swollen feet, and ankles, very tired, heartburn, etc. I've gained quite a bit of weight in the past 2 weeks - which my doctor says is probably due to my body retaining water and swelling... My blood pressure has been high so they've been tracking me for preeclampsia. So far, its just a mild case - I only have a few of the symptoms, but since my blood pressure has been consistantly up, they've got a close watch on me. I have to go to the doctor twice a week, and give blood and have other tests done. I'm also supposed to be taking it easy, I can still go to work for now, but if my blood pressure gets much higher, or I start getting any other symptoms, I might have to go on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy.
As of Monday, I'm not allowed to travel, so I'll be here in Tampa for Christmas. I'm pretty bummed about not being with my family, but It'll be fun to spend time here with Aaron and his family, as well as Julie and her family. I'll miss going to Texas, but I'd rather be here if something comes up. I'll see my famliy in February or March, so I'll make due until then. We got more ultrasound pictures this week, but I don't have them in computerized form yet. As soon as I get them scanned, I'll post them for all to see. So far everything looks good with the baby so as long as she's healthy and happy, I'll put up with my pregnancy pains and try not to complain TOO much... Monday, December 10. 200731 WeeksAs you may, or may not be able to tell by my most recent photos, my house has been overrun by boxes, and bags and piles of baby stuff! It seems like I have so much stuff now, but there's still so much I don't have too, its crazy! Aaron is finally in Tampa for good and we had a great weekend. It was very relaxing which is just what I needed.
Its going to be another busy week. They're sending me to Orlando again Tuesday, and I have two web trainings on Wednesday. Work is always busy busy busy, but at least it makes the day go by quicker. I've become increasingly more uncomfortable every day. My feet are starting to get swolen, I feel like I weigh 900lbs, my heartburn seems to get worse and worse... Now I get it with everything I eat, although some things make it worse than others. Sadly, chocolate makes it very bad, as does anything tomato based.
I went to the doctor last Friday and had a very unpleasant experience. While my visit with the doctor was very brief, the nurses had to take my blood pressure 6 different times! (its a long and annoying story, but I'll be happy to share it with you, just ask...) It ended up being normal by the time I left the office, but now they think I might be at risk for high blood pressure, so I have to go back next Friday for another checkup. Sigh... Oh well. Better safe than sorry. Wednesday, December 5. 200730 Weeks
Still incredibly busy with work, but I've been doing pretty well. As the end of the year creeps up, I'm getting just a little stressed out about everything - but I'm dealing with it pretty well. Julie and Dana threw me a wonderful shower this week and I got so many things I need for the baby! It was so great and I got to see so many people that I haven't seen in quite some time. Aaron is also in town now which is definetly a huge plus! All in all, things are looking up!
I'm still getting more and more uncomfortable and sleeping has now become a big challenge. Its very hard to fall asleep and stay asleep - especially with the horrible heartburn and leg cramps. The baby has also been moving around so much its a little crazy, but I guess I shouldn't complain. I just hope she's not quite so crazy once she's actually here and she just can learn to relax! My life is finally calming down! I had a great Thanksgiving with Mike and Julie's family, and we had a great time up in Gainesville for the Florida vs Florida State game!
I'm looking forward to just staying at home and relaxing. I don't go out of town again until mid December to go to Texas for the holidays. Work has been super busy lately, but not so busy that it makes me want to kill people. I'm somewhat enjoying the projects they have me working on right now, and I leave feeling like I've gotten stuff done for the day, so that's always a plus. I'm now making no effort to hide the fact that I'm pregnant at work - although I think you'd have to be pretty non-observant not to know...
I've been feeling pretty much the same. Lots of heartburn, my feet are somewhere between regular and swollen - they're not too bad yet - my legs have been cramping up some, and I'm very uncomfortable when I sleep. Normal pregnancy complaints. My nose has stopped bleeing though, so that must have been due to the cold weather in Iowa. Suzanne and David were in Anna Maria/Sarasota for Thanksgiving so Julie, Michael and I went to dinner with them in St Pete. We had a great time! Here's a fun pic from dinner. I miss you already Suze!

Before you comment on my outstanding beauty in this picture, let me just say its after a day of traveling - I'd just gotten off the plane from my 2nd trip to Iowa. This past week has been very fun, but so busy! I had a great time in Naples with Aunt Becky. We got to relax, and do some shopping. I even ended up with a pair of maternity jeans, which I must admit, aren't that bad. The Ritz was beautiful - the room overlooked the beach and we got to see a great sunset. Iowa was cold, but again, the trip was a success. I was able to help out Melanie, our director up there, and helped to answer all the questions that the Wells Fargo staff had.
Dare I say it, my heartburn has been a little better lately. Maybe I've just gotten used to it... I'm now experiencing leg cramps and my left leg/foot sometimes goes numb which is just lovely. Supposedly this is normal, according to the stuff I've read. Just very annoying. I'm so excited to finally be home for a weekend with nothing to do. I've got so much laundry and cleaning that needs to be done, and I actually had time to look for my USB cord so I could get my photos/updates online! Next weekend is the Florida - Florida State game, though, in Gainesville, so I've already got more travel plans for the weekend ahead! Here's a great photo of the sunset in Naples. Guess my feet made it into the shot too...
Here's the view out of our hotel room window. It was quite lovely:
27 Weeks
Another busy week! Just got back from Gainesville for the homecoming game. The game was a lot of fun! Melvin had a great time Tailgating! Michael and I had a great time at the game, and I even got to see Suzanne and David again! They were up for the game and we had a great day on Saturday, and ended the night with good ol Alley Katz karaoke! I came home Saturday night so I could go to the Bucs game Sunday with Jenny A. and her parents! It was such a fun time, and an awesome, but VERY busy weekend! This next week will be just as busy, as I'm on my way down to Naples for a visit with Aunt Becky. We'll be staying at the Ritz Friday and Saturday night! Sunday we'll both come back to Tampa, just to catch our planes - Aunt Becky back to Phoenix, and me to Iowa again!
Been feeling pretty much the same with a few new fun things too. My nose has been bleeding, my feet have been hurting (though suprising not swolen at all...) and still getting the beloved heartburn. The doctor says all is normal though. Everything is going just fine. She gave me some 'tips' on how to sleep with the heartburn, although I don't think its really feasible for me to eat my dinner at 5pm since I'm usually still at work, and I can't fall asleep sitting up, so I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it best I can. Here's some fun pics from this weekend:
Melvin Tailgating
Michael and I at the Gators Game! 26 Weeks
Hooray! I found my USB Cable! Had a great time in Iowa with Grandma, and the training was a success! The Wells Fargo people all seemed satisfied with my training and I was able to help them with all the questions that they had. Grandma and I had a great time catching up, and just had a very nice relaxing weekend. We even saw some deer in the back yard!
I haven't been feeling too bad, but I've been getting the WORST heartburn. It makes it very hard to fall asleep. This is on top of the little girl's increased poking around in there. It helps if I drink milk, but its only temporary. I've had to reschedule my doctor's appointment, again, because my boss needs me at work for a meeting, but I'll get everything checked out when I finally go in. Wednesday, November 14. 2007Update
Just wanted to let everyone know that I haven't forgotten about my blog! I've somehow misplaced my USB cable for my camera, so I can't put any new pics on my computer, although I have a bunch! As soon as I figure out where my cable is, we'll be up and running again.
Just want to let everyone know that everything is going fine, I've been feeling okish lately and doctor says everything is AOK. I'll keep searching for my camera cable and get my photos up as soon as i can! Wednesday, October 24. 200725 Weeks
Ok, here's the one I know you've been waiting for... Yes, I am actually wearing maternity pants. Getting to the point where its just not comfortable to wear my regualr pants anymore. When I dont stand up straight its very obvious that I'm pregnant, but its still not hard to hide while I'm at work, although its just kind of a pain.
Although I've got a couple pairs of maternity pants now, I've come to find - much to my frustration - that my swimmer's shoulders don't fit into maternity blouses. The shirts are way to tight on my shoulders and arms, and when I go up a size, i then look like I'm wearing a parachute. This has been the story of my life for quite some time, but at least with regular clothes, there are many more options and at least some brands cater to us broadbacked women. I guess maternity lines don't really think about this. How frustrating it is that not only is it SO hard to find anything that is actually cute, but on top of that, none of it fits.
I had a great time this past weekend with Suzanne in Key West! Can you tell how much more tan I look in my photos this week? (not really... 24 Weeks
Here are my 24 week photos. I've had them stored in my camera, but hadn't gotten the chance to put them up yet!
This was such a crazy week for me. First with my company 'restructuring' and me getting my old boss back added a lot of stress. Then with my original key west plans being cancelled, and a trip to iowa scheduled the week just flew by! Still looking and feeling pretty fat. I'm getting a lot of heartburn too. Especially at night. Just one of those things I guess...
Sunday, October 14. 200723 weeks
Here I am at 23 weeks. Again, it still depends on what I'm wearing whether you can tell I'm pregnant or not, but I'm really just feeling very fat. Other than feeling tired, I'm doing pretty well. I've been pretty comfortable, aside from a few pairs of my pants not fitting well anymore.
Finally got my ultrasound photos! Julie was nice enough to let me use her scanner, since the doctor only gave me printouts and not a CD.
She's a girl! Or so says this photo. I don't know how they can tell all these things, but the ultrasound lady was very positive in her declaration, so I guess I believe her. This photo was actually very hard to get. She kept hiding and moving around so much that it made it very difficult to tell. I ended up having to roll on my side to move her out of her 'corner' and get her to show a little skin.
This one I think she looks kind of like a tadpole, or maybe a mermaid! I don't think the ultrasound lady liked it when I said that though. She told me that she didn't look like a tadpole, and she was just a beautiful little girl. While that's true, I think the tadpole idea is more fun.
This one she's supposedly got her hand in or near her mouth. Its kinda hard to tell. When we were there they showed us some really cute shots of her feet, but they didn't give any printouts of those.
